The history of the heart-flags

The heart-flag concept was invented and copyrighted by Jacques de Selliers in 2007, when he imagined a Belgian heart-flag to bring at the 18 November 2007 demonstration for Belgian Unity.

A prototype was painted on a large canvas by artist Charlotte d'Aspremont. The canvas was tied onto two poles and displayed during the demonstration.
It was widely applauded by the demonstrators.

Following this success, it was decided to enter the concept into production.
The Belgian heart-flag was commercialized in fabric in December 2007, then as stickers and postcards in January 2008. This commercial operation was launched pro bono, aiming to send a message of tolerance, peace and unity to Belgian politicians – who need it badly! See where you can buy them...

Following the same concept, Jacques de Selliers designed Belgian flag variants and heart-flags for other countries in 2007 and the following years. Some of them are now also commercialised. See where you can buy them...
